ABOUT US

The Sonny Archer Law Enforcement Foundation, Inc. was founded in 2014 by Amanda de Geneste-Archer, surviving spouse, Fermin S. Archer, Sr., Father and Jasmine de Geneste, Sister-in-Law, in memory of one of New York City Police Department’s finest; Detective 1st Grade, Fermin S. Archer Jr. “Sonny” as he was fondly known to most, was born in Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York.  At the age of 18, Sonny began his public service career as a School Safety Officer.  In 1985, he continued to serve the public as a New York City Transit Police Officer.  After 28 years of public service and over 100 arrests, Detective Sonny Archer succumbed to an Aortic Dissection, after a “Line of Duty” automobile accident which occurred on June 17, 2011, in Brownsville. Sonny’s End of Tour was with the NY/NJ HIDTA Fugitive Task Force on July 13, 2011.

During his tenure with the New York Police Department, Sonny felt honored to have the opportunity to give back to his community. He considered the work he and his colleagues did to be “God’s Work”. Sonny was a wonderful father, a great friend, a kind human being and most of all, an Exemplary Officer.   Detective Fermin S. “Sonny” Archer, Jr. was the recipient of numerous awards highlighting his achievements, among them were Meritorious Awards, Distinguished Duty Awards, at least 10 Perfect Attendance Awards (including one for 15 Years of Perfect Attendance) and in 1993, he also received the prestigious Combat Cross Award.  His dedication to his work, is modeled by so many hard-working people in our communities. The hard work they do; it’s not just a job, it’s their chosen way of life.  This is why, we have made it our mission to share Awareness for Prevention of Hypertension and Stress Management. We believe, everyone should be aware of the risks of this silent killer and the importance of Stress Management.  This disease’s silent symptoms should be left to continue cheating anyone from being able to receive life saving care; as in the fate of Detective Fermin S. Archer Jr.  The silence of this disease played a major factor in him not being with us today.
He is truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

OUR MISSION

We understand, in order to combat the prevalence of this silent killer, Hypertension and the growing concern of Mental Health Care, it will take many. Therefore, it is our mission to improve the quality of life,  in our Communities and in the Law Enforcement profession, by sharing awareness  on the risks of Hypertension and one of it’s major contributing factors, Stress. We care about the Hearts of our community members and the Hearts Behind the Shields of the brave men and women who serve them daily.

Mental and physical health are equally important. “When the Mind is good the Heart is better”.
